Who We are
The Aurora Food Pantry is a volunteer based nonprofit organization governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. The Food Pantry began in 1990 and has been supporting the needs of Aurora and Oak Ridge residents since then. A group of dedicated volunteers assist with all phases of operation during the pantry’s food distribution hours on a rotational basis.
Food and monetary donations come from many local organizations, churches, schools, businesses and individuals.
Our volunteers are the backbone of the pantry: without the numerous hours they provide we would not be able to serve our clients.

Rummenie Student Volunteer Award
The Aurora Food Pantry created the Rummenie Student Volunteer Award to honour the late Jim and Lorna Rummenie who demonstrated a lifelong commitment to helping others. The Pantry was one of the organizations that benefited from their dedication. Both Jim and Lorna enjoyed working with young people.
Reflecting that spirit, each year the Board of the Aurora Food Pantry identifies a student volunteer who has demonstrated exemplary commitment to the Pantry over the course of the school year (September through April). At the Annual General Meeting held in May of each year, the Board will announce the recipient of the Rummenie Student Volunteer Award.
The selected student will have their name put on a plaque displayed at the Pantry and receive an honourarium. Funding for the honourarium will be specifically sought and will not be taken from funds directed towards food purchases.
